First of all, we understand the importance of learning at the early stages, as we already explored with you here. At Meridian School of English, we are focused on effective learning and the educational development of your child. During our online English lessons, we try to develop your children’s skills: grammatical, communicative or related to the appropriate pronunciation of words. We realise that learning a foreign language only in school is not as effective as it should be. Why?

The best effects on children are received when students engage in regular lessons. Doing exercises, talking with colleagues in a group only in English or solving language puzzles together are some of the best ways to have an interesting learning experience. If we give our children the opportunity to practice outside the classroom, it will be easier and faster for them to absorb and retain what they have learned. If you want to know some of our suggestions for adapting material with children, stay with us until the end of the article.

Single words in everyday life

The most important thing is the adaptation of the method to the age and language level of your child. With the youngest children, fun works best with the interweaving of English words for everyday conversations. It is worth starting by using one word that your child learned during our online English course. How do we do that? The most important thing is to clearly define what the word is and use it instead in your native language.

More frequent use of new words means more language skills

This fun helps the memorization process in children and teaches them to reflexively use concepts in English. This will make children more likely to communicate in a foreign language. In addition, this fun enriches their vocabulary that can improve their way of thinking. Thoughts affect words, and words affect thoughts. Therefore, it is worth working on vocabulary from an early age, to broaden toddlers’ perception of the world.

Exercise: what am I thinking about

For children a little older and more advanced linguistically, we recommend the exercise “what am I thinking about”, which is perfect for travelling and will be a great addition to our course, but also classes at school. What is this exercise? At the beginning of the game we give the slogan “what am I thinking about”, and then we describe this object, activity or place. We start with the simplest, that is, for example, to describe the colour, or what it is used for or where we can meet “this something”.

Children learn and memorize material faster

Children can develop skills such as fluency in speaking during our 30-minute English lessons – read about our methodology here. However, it is important to repeat the exercise regularly. Regularity helps to develop good habits. It is worth showing the youngest that regular learning brings benefits, such as smaller parts of the material to assimilate in a given time. Let’s show the kids that learning can be enjoyable.

English conversations

If the child can already build a few sentences in a foreign language then you can try to talk in English, even the simplest, like welcome and introduction. It is worth trying such short conversations in English with them so that they will gladly take the next steps in communicating with their peers. Thanks to this, your child gains confidence in speaking but also practices what they’ve learned so far.

Self-confidence in science is important at every stage

At Meridian School of English, we want children to overcome the language barrier and get used to the language. Therefore, in our school in one group, there are up to 6 classmates from different nationalities but with the same level of English. To ensure adequate education of children and ease of communication during class. How do children communicate with their peers in class? Only through English, do mix-international groups allow achieve self-confidence quickly and easily in speaking.

Education is the key to success. Combining education with fun and daily activity gives a guarantee of satisfaction with learning a foreign language. English conversations, exercise like “what am I thinking about” or weaving individual words into everyday life are the perfect complement to our online English course for children.

These are our suggestions for exercises for the youngest, which will allow you to easily and pleasantly assimilate the knowledge gained during our online English lessons. This will be suitable for children 5-15 years. Would you like more information about our English course for children? Write to us at hello@meridianenglish.com. We’ll be happy to help you.

5 tips to help children with online learning

The internet is a powerful tool that has recently been used primarily for work and learning. It contains much valuable knowledge but also some dangers. Comfort and security are the most important things for us in our online classes.

Because of the unique nature of the Meridian School of English, our students are participating in virtual learning. We want time spent in online classes to be productive and useful for children. That is why we want to give you our 5 tips to help your kids learn English online.

Help to catch up on technological aspects

Understanding the definition of e-learning is crucial. One of these definitions is “eLearning is using computer technology for distance education”. In order for learning to be effective, we need to help children learn technology. Let’s show them that online lessons can also attract attention and interest. What will be useful? Getting interesting content for them.

Attract attention through computer technology

In our online classes, children need to focus on their attention for only 30 minutes. What positively affects effectively participating in the lesson at all times. To attract their attention, we use various modern technology-based methods – click here to read about more. Interactive materials from Oxford University Press – help your kids know and learn new technologies at the same time.

Configure parental control systems

As we have already mentioned, the internet can also be a source of danger. Therefore, it is so important to prevent and talk with your children about how should use it properly. Fortunately, the Internet shows the range of solutions you can take to make your kids feel more secure in cyberspace.

The most important aspect is the prevention

Make sure that all programs are up to date. Run updates to decrease potential online risks and help them make safer choices. You can also install parental controls, which allow you to filter websites, block apps or games and regulate your child’s purchases online. And one more: an equally good way to warn children about online dangers is to talk with them about cyberbullying. It is key to know appropriate and inappropriate interactions with such behaviours.

Stay close but distant

Children want to be more independent of their parents. Give them a sense of freedom, but be close enough so they can ask for your help if they need you. In our online English classes, we try to help your children as we can, so, for the duration of the lesson, you can do your own household chores.  Show your children that it is worth asking for help. That way you will build trust together.

Be close enough to help them when they need that

However, it is worth them having a little freedom so that they can learn some of the techniques themselves. Remember to limit the time your children use technology. It is important that you take the time to do other exercises, such as a sport, so as to keep the balance between learning online and different activities.

Create a climate of trust in which they can participate

Any conversation with your child builds trust. When you talk to your baby about topics such as technology and cybercrime you know that they are prepared for different situations. They also know that they can talk and inform you about different behaviours of theirs, and of their peers.

At first: build the trust

If they notice worrying behaviour on the network, they will inform you immediately. Support of parents to children and vice versa is very important and builds bonds and trust. Children can feel safe when the parents react in the proper way. More trust means less worry, less stress and more peace of mind.

Be patient with your child's online classes

Even if you know that your children, during online classes make mistakes – be patient. Maybe they are a little disassociated – just be patient. Maybe they can’t find desk space or today they are extremely mobile. If it doesn’t happen too often, just be patient. Each of us can have a slightly less efficient or simply a worse day.

Patience is key to be successful in online classes

It is difficult to focus the attention of the youngest in the lesson. But at Meridian English, we have a solution. Our teachers, give their best to keep your little ones in focus and gain an interest in English lessons and the topics that are being discussed there. The materials used by the youngest, in combination with the passion of our teachers, give incredible effects. Well, have you had the opportunity to meet our teachers? Just click here, to get to know them.

As you see, online learning is a process that we all need to learn. Both children and adults. Together, we need to bring children into the world of technology and show them the benefits. We must also say that if the internet is misused, it will cause harm. Without prevention and trust, we will not be able to bring children into this world of technology.

At Meridian School of English, we keep children safe in cyberspace and effective learning for them. If you have any questions, just write to us at hello@meridianenglish.com. Together, we will make sure that children are safe online.

Today, more and more decisions can be made using a computer without leaving the house. It’s not only decisions; many spheres of life have simply moved to the internet. A lot of language schools are available online, and it is not easy for parents to choose something suitable for their children.

Online learning has many advantages, but unfortunately, there are also disadvantages. Have you ever wondered what the pros and cons of this education style are? Read on, and find out.

Accessibility of online classes

As we have already mentioned, we know that there are many schools that offer foreign language learning. Each school is doing well, so which one should you choose? When considering studying in a face-to-face school or in an online school, it is worth weighing up the impact on your child’s other interests.

When learning English online, you have the time to develop other passions

Online classes are convenient and flexible. What does that mean? The timing and date of these classes are chosen by you, not by the teacher, so you can tailor your child’s classes to their weekly schedule of classes and responsibilities. Simple, right?

Access to quality teaching staff

Of course, the internet is a great source of online learning in language schools but also for self-study learning. However, the free materials online are often out of date, and it can be difficult to correct your own errors while you learn.

A highly educated staff is key to your child’s success

Meridian School of English is a combination of online learning and creative education. Our teachers give are dedicated to ensuring that during the 30-minute lessons, children learn as much as possible. Our staff are highly qualified by Cambridge University or Trinity College London. In addition, they are residents of the UK or its citizens – that’s why we know that choosing our school is a guarantee of access to deep language knowledge and best teaching practices.

Opportunities for interaction with other children

Classes at Meridian English are a great opportunity to make new friends. Here, children are assigned to up to 6-person, mixed-nationality groups. You’re probably wondering why…

Courage helps you speak English

All this is for the sake of the education and immersion of children within the English language. These groups give children the confidence to participate and communicate in English with their peers. In Meridian English, they enter a new society, which over time becomes a close-knit group, communicating without difficulty.

More resources and greater flexibility

Online classes are not just lectures, during which the teacher takes over the whole lesson. Online classes can be very diverse. Are you wondering how this is possible?

We use different methods to make learning fun

During classes at Meridian School of English, we use different student-centred methods, available thanks to technology. We can watch videos, more easily handle presentations or audio materials, and even solve puzzles or quizzes together. Did you know that Meridian English also uses interactive materials from Oxford University Press? Read about our methodology here

Saving time and money on commuting

In addition, the choice of online education allows you to develop children’s passions with them. The time that you would have to spend on taking your child to lessons, to a language school, you can enjoy playing together, relaxing or reading books in Englishhere we have given some of our suggestions.

During your child’s classes, you will have free time

In addition to saving time, you can also save money, which you can use in a system of small rewards for your child, for good academic results. You can also simply reinvest in subsequent lessons that will contribute much more to their education.

Potential Drawbacks of online classes

Unfortunately, there are schools and teachers that are not able to use modern technology. In addition, they are not properly prepared to work online.

Meridian English teachers are constantly improving their skills and their teaching methods online. Their experience often exceeds several years of working with children. In addition, they make great use of the online environment, where they contact not only students during the lesson, but also parents, who get feedback after lessons. Every lesson is recorded, so repeating and reviewing the material from lesson to lesson is easy with our platform, and children are encouraged to learn regularly.

Disadvantages are transformed into advantages at Meridian English

Is lack of interaction with other children a disadvantage? Perhaps, if the school lacks appropriate solutions. However, at Meridian School of English, children take part in classes in mixed, international groups. Why? We want to create the best opportunities possible for interaction between children. When there are no people who speak the same language nearby, this encourages children to talk in a foreign language.

What do you need to learn with Meridian? Your child’s desire to learn, a course booking, and an internet connection. We don’t use any complex systems – we only need MS Teams, which we have written about on our social media profiles. Look there to find out more.

As you can see, online English lessons for kids are easy. Meridian classes have only pros but if you have any questions, just write to us at hello@meridianenglish.com. We are looking forward to meeting your child in our lessons!

How many English classes does your child need per week?

How many English classes does your child need per week?

On our blog, we have already mentioned the quality of teaching in Meridian English, that we are best able to learn before 10 years of age and that group classes are the best option. Now, it is time to answer the question: how many English lessons per week does your child need to learn English effectively?

This question is a tricky one. It depends on several factors, such as their age and the quality of the English classes. Stay with us till the end of the article, and we are sure we will dispel your doubts.

Quality and quantity in English lessons

Regular English classes at a minimum of two per week are the best results – as research has confirmed. You may wonder why. This is linked to memory capacity, which is mainly shaped by recalling content, and is simply repeating. If we choose the right frequency for our children, this will have a positive impact on the quality of their education.

More frequent learning is better learning

What does this mean in practice for our children? Regular classes allow you to learn new vocabulary, grammar, or expressions, and importantly, to review the material from previous lessons. In order to achieve satisfactory learning outcomes, the learning process should include a repetition system, a replay system that is only possible in a few lessons per week. This will allow your children to remember individual words or phrases appropriately and permanently.

The importance of regularity in learning English

For children especially (but for teenagers too), regular practice is key when it comes to learning a new skill or new language. Thinking about how many English classes children need per week is not just about the number of lessons. It’s also about the quality of those classes

Regular lessons are the most effective because they stimulate memory processes

Frequent and short, 30-minutes sessions will help your child improve skills more quickly than fewer sessions with more time spent on each one. How is it possible? Although the human brain is never tired, children can easily lose interest in learning. During 30 minutes of the lessons, children focus on topic and on their communication skills. Therefore, our methods include brief lessons two or three times a week – here you can check our methodology

The importance of regularity in learning for children

Have you heard about good learning habits? If your children regularly perform activities such as doing homework, reading English books or just taking an English lessons, it will have a positive impact on education. The regular rhythm of the day will allow your children to focus on their online lessons.

The goal of learning a new language is to understand it

Regular feedback with a well-trained teacher –  read about our teachers. Regularity will allow for verification and the correction of errors and mistakes on the fly while teaching children. This will result in better learning outcomes. In addition, children who practice regularly are more confident, open-minded and believe in their own skills – that is why they can easily communicate in English.

Overcome small goals on the long road of learning English

The best way to go a long way, like the road to learning English, is to set small goals. How can we do it? The most important thing is to define these goals together with your child. In addition, if you specify a frequency, the target will be easier to achieve. After all, it is your child who wants to achieve it. And we do not want to discourage them from setting targets alone.

Define the goals together with your child

What are the goals you can set for children in English? Booking online English course for kids. Reading English books before going to bed – here you can find books, which we recommend. Listening and dancing to English songs. Watching English movies for kids – we have recommended some on our social media profiles, just click here to check. In overcoming small goals, regularity is also crucial.

Meridian English method to teach English online

It’s crucial that your child has regularity in their learning and time to repeat and memorise the grammar rules and vocabulary. That is why in Meridian we have three lessons a week for younger children and two times a week for the older ones – 45 minutes of lessons make children not exhausted but curious about English.

Short but regular classes conducted by highly qualified teachers

We want children to have enough time to review the material not only on their own but also during the lessons – when the classes are held once a week, it is not possible to focus attention on the repetition and individual needs of students. At Meridian School of English, we recommend short lessons and that is not only the recommendation from us – click here to check, repeated several times a week to ensure that our students are properly taught – click to read about that more.

Short, regular classes are the best way to learn English online for kids.  Neither too much, nor too little. Do you have any questions? Write to us at hello@meridianenglish.com. We will be happy to answer your questions.
