Welcome to your Lunar New Year Culture Workshop with Meridian!

We have 3 fun interactive classes available. These classes are project-based learning and allow students to practise English while learning new skills. If your child loves being creative and meeting other students, we would like to invite you to one of our Meridian culture workshops.

Who Can Apply:

Exclusively for students currently enrolled in Meridian courses.

Class Capacity:

Limited to a maximum of 15 students per class.

Meridian Chinese Lantern Making

5-7 year-olds

3 February, 11:00 and 12:00 GMT

Make a fun Chinese Lantern for your family or friends.

  • Learn how to talk about animals and the story of the Lunar New Year.
  • Learn about colours and instructions.
  • Practise speaking and listening skills.
  • Play games and have fun.

You will need:

  • 2 pieces of red paper or other coloured paper for your lantern.
  • Coloured pens, crayons or pencils.
  • A pencil.
  • Some glue.
  • Scissors.
  • Ruler.
  • Your artistic skills.
  • And, your imagination.

Meridian Dragon Mask Making

6-9 year-olds

3 February, 11:00 GMT

Create a fun, colourful dragon mask to celebrate the year of the dragon with your Meridian English teacher.

  • Learn about the Lunar New Year in English.
  • Play games and have fun.
  • Learn about colours and instructions.
  • Practise your pronunciation, speaking and listening skills.
  • Create a beautiful mask.

You will need:

  • Your printed dragon stencil.
  • Some thin white cardboard.
  • Some string or elastic.
  • Colouring pens, pencils, or crayons.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue or cello tape.

Meridian Creative Writing and Storytelling

7 years plus and A2 level English and above

3 February, 12:00 GMT

You will have fun using your imagination and inventing a lovely story based on the dragon to celebrate this Lunar New Year.

  • Focus on creating characters and giving descriptions.
  • Setting scenes and creating narratives.
  • Practise writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • Practise teamwork.

  • A notebook
  • A pen or pencil.
  • Your creative skills.
  • And, your imagination.
