Our Story

Our Story

Meridian School of English started in 1979. At its peak Meridian was one of the largest providers for young learners in the UK, with over 4,500 students studying in eight British Council Accredited residential centres. Meridian developed its own educational platform which managed the booking process from initial enquiry to class confirmation. In 2020 Meridian fully digitised its business taking the teaching of English into the student’s home.

We are a UK Registered Training  Provider and a British Council Accredited English Language School.  We are regularly inspected to  assure that we meet quality standards in management, resources and environment, teaching, welfare and the care of under 18s. We have been providing English language courses to students from all around the world for over 40 years.

What do we offer?

  • English classes designed for children from 5-9, 10-12 and 13-15 years of age
  • Each course booking is calculated as a fixed number of sessions. At the booking stage you will see your official course start and finish dates that take any public holidays or school closures into account

How do we teach

Equipment requirements

A Windows 10 PC or Laptop device, or an iPad IOS 14 or higher. A webcam is essential, and we recommend using headphones for an optimal experience.

What do we teach?

In order to best support students, our teachers use the highest quality materials published by Oxford University Press, supplemented with custom, teacher created content. Our flexible approach to syllabus means that our students get the support they really need to improve. We consult the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to ensure that our students receive the best possible preparation for the future. 


Ahmet has been teaching English for over 8 years. His qualifications include the CELTA, a PGCE and a BA(Hons) in English Language Teaching. His lessons are engaging and fun and his goal is to help his students become confident and independent learners. He believes that every student learns differently and caters for the plurality of needs in class.

Susannah currently lives in the city of Bristol where she gained her Cambridge CELTA qualification. She holds a BA Hons first class degree and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Exeter. She enjoys planning engaging lessons where her students can get lots of speaking practice, build their confidence and enjoy the adventure of learning English.

Raised in Plymouth England, Rebecca has been teaching English for several years to students studying in England from abroad, as well as people who have now made England their home. Her qualifications include the CertTESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Level 5, Trinity College London qualification. Rebecca believes that students should feel comfortable in the classroom, and that learning should be a fun and rewarding experience for all involved. In her free time she enjoys playing the violin and piano, as well as going for cycle rides, when the weather is good!

Jess has a variety of experience teaching English to young adults in English schools from abroad, learners living in the UK and well as online. She has a Bachelor of Honours in Illustration and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA). She is supportive and engaging with her teaching and finds it very rewarding helping students live up to their full potential.

Emily has the Cambridge CELTA qualification in English language teaching. She also has a PhD in social sciences and experience of working in higher education. Emily cares deeply about each student’s learning and is always looking for ways to adapt to each learner’s needs and interests. She aims to create enjoyable lessons that spark each student’s desire to learn more.

Iris possesses a bachelor’s degree in Teaching Primary Education, the Cambridge Celta, the Level 2 in Counselling Skills, a module in Teaching Younger Learners, and the Level 3 in Safeguarding. She is really passionate about her teaching and she loves adapting her lessons to her students’ needs. Her lessons aim to help students to learn while having fun.

Anna lives in Wales and has been teaching English as a foreign language to adults and children in the Middle East for over five years. She holds a Master's degree in Linguistics and Cambridge English Level 5 certificate. Anna explores different online tools to make her lessons interactive and engaging. Additionally, she creates positive environment to help her students learn and make progress.

Ruairi (Rory) is from the UK and has been teaching English around the world for over eleven years. His qualifications include the Celta, a TESOL, a Professional teaching Diploma in Education and a BA(Hons) in Business and Marketing. He is always looks for ways to make learning fun and interesting and his goal is to help his students become confident and happy learners, as he finds a happy student learns more.

Henry is from Oxford, UK, and has taught a mixture of adults, children, and teenagers in both international language school and secondary school settings in the United Kingdom, France, and Switzerland. He decided to become a teacher after spending an exciting year abroad at a high school in Lille, France, whilst he was a university student. In 2017, when he returned to the UK from Switzerland, he became a CELTA qualified teacher. Henry believes that 3P’s bring success in the classroom: Positivity, Perseverance and Persistence.

Social Responsibility

We are building a network of confident fluent English speakers, with a learning habit – tomorrows entrepreneurs, leaders, travellers and global citizens. When we share a language, we make friends and solve problems together.

We want as many people as possible to join the Meridian community of learners. To reach people that may not be able to pay we have committed to:

  • 33% of all students have a free one-week Trial (which we call an Exclusive Trial)
  • that 10% of all our students will come from developing countries* at a discounted rate i.e., 70% have a 20% discount and 30% a 40% discount on course fees.

To achieve our target, we have committed 3% of our revenue. So in joining Meridian School of English, you are supporting us in creating an international community of English speakers. We want to thank you for helping us meet this objective.

  6. While your child is learning with us, you will receive feedback on their progress, and advice on how best to support them.
