Our British Council Accredited [2] language schools, being within the academic and cultural centres of the cities of Plymouth and Portsmouth, each situated on the southern coast of England and hosting over 30,000 resident students during the academic year, provide a rich and exciting cultural immersion experience for all our English language school students.
With our schools combined experience of teaching English over thirty years, we have much to offer language students who choose to study with us in our schools in England.
Beyond our full and part-time general English all level courses, exam preparation and business English programmes, we offer an extensive range of English language focused social and cultural activities outside of school and work experience programmes. Our English schools are open the year round, excepting two weeks over Christmas and public holidays [3] when our English schools are closed.
Applicants can enroll for any of our English language study programmes at any of our English language schools at any time and start their studies as agreed between the chosen language school and the applicant. Our flexible timetable allows study at times preferred by the applicant i.e. morning, afternoon, evening, or even a combination of all three.
Our school teaching methods and approach to teaching English language are designed to enable students at our schools to communicate effectively in English. School lessons are based on topics that incorporate the fundamental English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Our English language school teachers use the most up-to-date English language school books and audio-visual materials, while every effort is made to create a varied and exciting language learning experience. As student-centered teaching is recognised as the most effective way to learn languages, all the teachers aim to focus on each individual student's language needs. We use interesting school classroom activities undertaken in pairs and or group work to encourage interaction and to motivate applicants. As well as all this, our friendly staff make every effort to maintain good relationships with the students outside their English language school curricular activities, thus creating the optimum environment for learning both in and out of school.
There is continuous assessment for all English language school students, and long-stay English language students get a regular study progress report. A certificate from Meridian English language school is given to each participant at the end of their studies, as well as a report from the schools teachers outlining important aspects of studies undertaken and containing recommendations for the student's further English English language studies.
English language students can join the social and leisure activities programmes organised by the schools (see social programmes), which include excursions, sports activities, theatre visits, cinema, live music, discos etc. All our applicants get guidance and support from us from the moment they make their first enquiry about enrollment at Meridian school of English until the completion of their studies.
We run adhoc programmes of social events designed to encourage all participants to mix with those from other countries.
Our cultural programmes offer a range of activities including visits to historical places and museums, trips to other towns and cities, sport and social activities.
