MEC Scholarship for Spanish Students 2011

(16 to 30 yrs old)

Introduction

The 3 week course for Spanish students run by Meridian School of English (Tellus Group) and it gives an opportunity for all Spanish students to participate in an English Language course. The course combines 15 hours General English classes per week and a programme of optional activities and excursions which the students can sign up for during their stay.

English Course

The course provides 15 class hours of practice in all four key areas of language, i.e., reading, writing, listening and speaking with plenty of opportunity for active vocabulary development. The course provides a comprehensive coverage of the grammatical structures relevant to the student’s level and it is aimed at developing the student’s language skills systematically. The material to be studied has been carefully chosen in order to create interesting, useful and authentic contexts for a fuller understanding of the language. The lessons have been structured to follow the guide lines of the Common European Framework and allow the students the opportunity to practice and use the language they are studying in a natural and realistic way, with ample opportunity, for example, to talk about themselves, their families, friends, countries, lives, work, interests etc.

Class Sizes

The minimum class size is 6 and the maximum class size is 12 students.

Accommodation

Homestay Standard Full Board of Half Board accommodation.

Timetable

On the first day the programme begins on Monday morning at 8.45am at the School with a language placement test, a welcome meeting and Health & Safety awareness. The students will also be given a Welcome Pack and they will be taken on an orientation tour of Plymouth. From Monday to Friday classes will be held in the mornings from 9.00 to 12.30 with a half hour break. There are optional activities if required in the afternoons and evenings.

Optional Activities

Optional activities vary from week to week and we can consider requests according to the Group’s interests. All day Saturday excursions can also be arranged at a cost of £32 per person for a minimum group of 10.
Activities can include beach barbeques, visits to places of historic and scenic interest, Historic Houses, (surfing centre), National Marine Aquarium, Dartmoor National Park, Torquay, Cornish Fishing Villages, Ice Skating, Bowling, Stonehenge, London etc..

• All English language tuition x 15 hours per week
• Enrolment fee and course materials
• Standard Homestay Accommodation (Half Board/ Full Board)

Package does not include

• - Flights, transfers to Plymouth, lunches, local bus passes and evening activities. We advise you take out your own insurance as it is cheaper in the home country.
