English Language and Media - Summer Programme for Adults

One or two weeks - Plymouth (July and August 2012)

Description

The Interactive Media Programme aims to prepare you for the communications media of the 21st century and will develop your skills in creative design for handheld technology. You will explore areas of design in relation to audiovisual technology and computing for the purpose of communication. You will gain knowledge and skills in using the traditional design/drawing methods and visualising skills to generate and develop ideas. To apply to a variety of appropriate designs involving the latest tools to create apps for handheld device technologies, you will be involved in exploring different software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Flash and 3D Studio Max. The course also gives you the opportunity to study English in an English speaking environment with focus on media development and practice of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Brief outline of content

Using web based applications in conjunction with Adobe Flash, students will be building applications for computer tablet technology such as Android, iPhone and iPad platforms. Programmes which will be used: Adobe Photoshop, Flash Interface Induction. PC/MACs.

Age group: 18+


Skills required: a basic knowledge of the media will be necessary for the completion of the course


Course Dates: 4 July – 30 August

Duration: 1 or 2 weeks

Minimum number of students per group: 10

Included in the package

  • 15 hours of English language tuition and the learning materials
  • Necessary equipment and studio resources provided by Plymouth College of Art to deliver the workshops
  • Transport to and from accommodation
  • Accommodation – Private Home Full Board or Half Board
  • Full supervision (as per British Council regulations)

Optional

  • Activities in the evening from Monday to Friday and Saturday excursions
  • Qualification: ASDAN Bronze Award (available for two-week programme only)
