It is valid WORLDWIDE: while staying in the UK, should a student / traveller decide to go to Germany for a couple of days for example, s/he remains covered with AVI International.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Alarm centre:
In case of emergency, the insured have to call ACE European Group Ltd and their dedicated alarm centre which is now International SOS based in Paris and is reachable 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. The emergency phone number is +33-1-55-63-33-34.(collect-calls are accepted)..
The alarm centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with multilingual assistance coordinators.
It takes care of all assistance formalities (hospitalisation, medical evacuation, air tickets arrangements, ambulance transportation....)
In such cases, the alarm centre will directly deal with the hospital to monitor and handle the case.
For a minor complaint such as flu, we recommend the student visit a doctor of his choice, pay for the medical services rendered and claim for reimbursement with AVI International Paris, by sending the duly completed claim form along with all the medical paperwork.
If the file is complete, it takes 2 or 3 weeks to get reimbursement.
The policy number as well as the emergency phone number will be noted on the ID card the student will receive in a PDF formatted file once they have booked and paid for the insurance.

NHS Treatment is free of charge for all EU nationals but you will have to pay for any of the medicines you may need. Any students from outside the EU will need to have their own medical insurance.
Visiting a Doctor
If you need to go to the doctor you will need an appointment. If you live with a host family you can see their GP (General Practitioner) who will sign you in as a visitor and this is free of charge. If you live in self-catering accommodation, contact Meridian and we will make an appointment for you.
Visiting a Dentist
Dental treatment is not free in England. You will have to pay for this treatment but you should be able to claim this back from your insurance (if you have bought such). If you need a dentist, please, contact Meridian and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Going to Hospital
If you have a serious illness, a medical emergency or have injured yourself in an accident, an ambulance should be called and you will be taken to the nearest hospital. To call for an ambulance dial 999 and ask for ambulance. You will need to give the full name of the person requiring medical assistance, their date of birth, sex, race and the exact location, e.g., the nearest house number (or landmark) and street name.
Pharmacy
All medicines will have to be paid for. For doctor's prescriptions, the price currently is £7.20 (price posted 20/10/09).
